FAMAGUSTA AREA

Famagusta area is located in the southeast of the island and is the most popular destination for tourists around the world. Ayia Napa on the south-east coast is well knowned for its vibrant life and its fabulous beaches of fine white sand, and Protaras, the coastal area of Paralimni in the east with its award-winning beaches (Fig-tree bay beach and Konnos beach) with its crystal sea waters and its hundreds of windmills, nowadays buzz with life.

A group of villages which lie in the northwest side of Famagusta district, are known as “Kokkinochoria” (the red soil villages), due to the rich red earth where delicious potatoes, watermelons and melons and strawberries grow. Cyprus potatoes are famous and is one of the islands biggest export.

During the summer period, residents and visitors can enjoy a range of festivals that take place in the above mentioned villages, such as potatoes festival, strawberry festival and watermelon festival as well as a range of Festivals carried out by Ayia Napa and Paralimni municipalities.
